A1: Ideomotor Cueing:
Portal to the Unconscious

(2 CE hrs)

Ideomotor cueing gives us another perspective on reality through accessing the inner wisdom of the body. It is an essential part of the guidance that directs energy psychology techniques, deriving from the collaboration between tester and subject, and yielding insight from outside of conscious awareness.

 

Objectives:

  • List two benefits that ideomotor cueing provides in the application of EP techniques.
  • Name three components of proper mindset when utilizing ideomotor cueing.
  • Identify three components of ideomotor cueing mechanics.

Lynn Karjala, PhD, DCEP, is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Roswell, Georgia. She specializes in trauma treatment, has published two books, and is trained in hypnosis, AIT, EFT, TAT and BSFF. She is chairwoman of ACEP’s CEP certification committee.

A2: The Nature of Addiction and Interventions for Relapse Using EP

You will learn how the addicted brain manifests itself and how this brain is almost inevitably prone to relapse, even with excellent, initial treatment. In the addicted brain lights go on and off; connections are made, then broken. Discover practical methodologies to prevent or mitigate relapse.

  • Identify the one differentiation between dependence and addiction.
  • Identify two areas in the limbic brain where dopamine becomes an aspect of survival.
  • Describe "the cross" that intersects the kinesiological model with the aspects of intelligence model.

Grier Cundill, MA, DCEP, is an addictions and relapse prevention counselor, NCAC II, CADC III and ACEP member. For eleven years, he facilitated outpatient programs in hospital-based settings and for the past twelve years he has been a relapse prevention counselor in private practice.

A3: Increasing Presence with Advanced Integrative Therapy
(2 CE hrs)

We will explore how presence is the inverse of trauma and learn Advanced Integrative Therapy’s powerful methods for treating trauma, increasing presence among family members, and reconnecting to emotions and body parts. You will also learn specific AIT meditations to increase presence in body, mind and spirit.

  • Explain how trauma and dissociation are the inverse of presence.
  • Identify three signs of being dissociated and not fully present to one's clients.
  • Identify three ways of increasing presence to oneself and one's clients.

Glenn Soberman, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist and heads the AIT research committee. He authored Letting Go: A Self-Help Manual for Emotional Well-Being, and has taught AIT throughout North and Central America and Europe, including humanitarian outreach projects in New Orleans.

A4: Conquering Anger Mountain: Full Spectrum Anger Literacy

Anger comes in four distinct varieties. Anger management does not help all of them. However, energy psychology can help build full-spectrum anger literacy. Discover how to help clients transform anger from a source of fear or damage to a doorway into healthy empowerment and relationship enhancement.

A5: Intuition and Energy Psychology: Enhancing Your Personal Guidance System

Intuition. Is it real or imagined? Explore intuition as a bridge between the conscious and unconscious mind; review theory and research related to energy psychology and intuition. Consider unique cultural and ethical applications using intuitive processes with self and others. Develop a personal language of intuition, and an inventory of intuition self-care tools.

Lori Chortkoff Hops, PhD, is a licensed psychologist practicing psychotherapy in Westlake Village, California. Dr. Hops is an ACEP member currently completing requirements for DCEP certification.  Her primary focus is integrative mental health.

 

A6: Energy Psychology and Transpersonal Psychotherapy: Expanding Treatment Options
(2 CE hrs)
EP is deepened when it draws from its wider root system in transpersonal psychotherapy. Through theory, practices, and case illustrations you will see how this transpersonal energy psychology approach can be applied to cases involving anxiety, hypertension, chronic pain, and insomnia.

Michael Mayer, PhD, is a psychologist, Qigong/Tai Chi teacher, co-founding faculty member of JFK University’s Transpersonal Psychology Program, and co-founder of a multi-disciplinary medical clinic. He is an award-winning author of twenty transpersonal psychology publications, including his two books Bodymind Healing Psychotherapy and Energy Psychology.

A7: Trauma-Based Spiritual Experiences and Post-traumatic Growth: A Mixed-Methods Study
(2 CE  hrs)
Research shows that trauma-based spiritual experiences facilitate posttraumatic growth for victims of trauma. You will learn how to differentiate "spirit helpers” from alter and ego-states and incorporate research findings on spirit helpers into each phase of trauma treatment.

  • Name two core features of traumatic experiences that are likely to result a spirit experience at the time of trauma.
  • List two ways that the experience of a trauma-based spirit helper can be used in trauma treatment.

Darleen Lindstrom, PhD, LISW-S, is a clinician, conference presenter, radio show guest-speaker and researcher. She uses a holistic framework in her clinical work and research on trauma-related spiritual experiences. Dr. Lindstrom is certified in Heart-Centered Hypnotherapy and IADC and is trained in EMDR, EFT and subtle energy.

A8: Optimal Presence: Using Somatic, Color and Energy Psychologies to Enhance Listening and Rationality

A major challenge to the fulfillment of our good intentions is that we leave "present-time awareness” many times an hour. By integrating the resources from body-centered, color, and energy psychologies, we can learn to master these tendencies to "trance-out” and return to living fully in the present moment.

  • Identify the term now used to describe the specific "Level 1" moment of emotional trauma imprinting from overwhelm.
  • Articulate the three stages of esteem/shame imprinting through human relationship interaction.
  • Identify the four levels of "willpower" or "intentionality" which underlie all decision-making.

Brent Baum, SSL, CADC, a pioneer in the fields of somatic and energy psychology, is the developer of Holographic Memory Resolution (HMR) and is an interdisciplinary specialist in the fields of spirituality, trauma, and addictions. He is also a certified alcohol and drug counselor, and a certified clinical hypnotherapist.

A9: Matrix Reimprinting: Rewrite Your Past, Transform Your Future
(2 CE hrs)
Matrix Reimprinting is a meridian tapping technique that uses aspects of memory reconsolidation, quantum theory, HeartMath, and soul retrieval. This session offers an introduction to the development and clinical application of this approach.

 

Objectives:

  • Describe how dissociation of the client is maintained throughout the Matrix Reimprinting process.
  • Describe the two MR studies that have been published in peer reviewed journals.
  • Describe the Future Matrix Protocol and two examples of when to use it in a clinical setting.

B1: Identifying and Treating Systemic Energetic interferences
(2 CE hrs)

In this interactive session you will learn to identify and treat systemic energetic interferences – the most frequently encountered impediments to client progress. These interferences may also prevent energy psychology treatments from bringing lasting effects and cause client frustration and discouragement.

 

Objectives:

  • State two reasons it is essential to treat systemic energetic interferences (SEI).
  • List three methods to identify the presence of SEI's.
  • Know and demonstrate three methods for treating an SEI.
Joanne Karpinen, PhD, DCEP, EEM-CP, is a consultant for ACEP’s certification program and serves on the certification and membership committees. She has private practices in psychology and energy medicine. Joanne is an authorized teacher for Eden Energy Medicine 101 and 102.

B2: Using EFT to Successfully Manage Adolescent Anxiety in School Settings

More testing, higher standards, and bullying; factors such as these are contributing to increases in anxiety experienced by school-aged youth. Demands are high for an effective intervention, and recent research results show EFT can significantly reduce students’ anxiety. You will learn this research-supported protocol for youth.

Amy Gaesser, PhD, MSEd, with 20+ years experience in mental health and academia, Amy is assistant professor of counseling and development at Purdue University. She utilizes a blend of traditional and energy psychologies to assist clients in overcoming challenges and reaching their greatest potential.

B3: When Ancestors Anchor Client Trauma: Integrating Family Constellations and Energy Psychology
(2 CE hrs, Excludes NBCC)

In this session we will review the perspective, techniques, and effectiveness of Family Constellations before turning to advances in their use in conjunction with energy psychology. Using cases, video, and demonstration, we will illustrate how several forms of EP work powerfully with constellations to shift both personal and ancestral trauma.

  • Explain the difference between personal trauma, and trauma in the family system affecting individuals.
  • Name five of the seven sources of individual hidden loyalties to unresolved trauma in the ancestral field.
  • List three criteria for successful application of EP techniques in group constellations.
Michael Reddy, PhD, CPC, is an author, healer, certified coach, and shamanic practitioner, and leader in the U.S. of a family systems modality called Family Constellations. In addition to training practitioners, he helps people who have become trapped in chronic emotional or physical suffering recover their health and happiness.

B4: EP Meets Eckert, Shapiro, Johnson and You
(2 CE hrs)

There is wisdom found in psychotherapeutic approaches such as cognitive therapy, EMDR, emotion-focused therapy and family systems. We will review the active ingredients in these approaches and consider how EP may be in play naturally in these models. We will explore how you can use EP to enhance these approaches.

 

Objectives:

  • List several elements of active ingredients from models presented that are used in clinical work.
  • Recognize specific markers of change that result from using EP techniques and how these are the same or different from various psychotherapy models.
  • Identify possible cases within your practice that might benefit by adding a different EP technique or perspective related to various psychotheraputic approaches.

Robert Bray, PhD, LCSW, has a private practice specializing in traumatic stress and consults and teaches TFT at all levels. 

Suzanne Connolly, LCSW, LMFT, has trained over 2,000 people worldwide to use and integrate TFT in clinical settings. Her presentations venues include classes in Rwanda, Charity Hospital, Paris, Montreal, Kuwait, California State Prison for Youth, Tucson VA, and the Native American Diabetic Conference in Alaska.

B5: Therapeutic Presence: The Heart of Effective EP Interventions

It is important to establish an informed, safe, and trusting therapeutic relationship. Regardless of your EP approaches and orientations, research clearly indicates that the relationship is key for effective outcomes. This presentation incorporates clinical skills, methods, research findings, and tools that will help you enhance your therapeutic presence.

John Diepold Jr, PhD, DCEP, is a licensed psychologist, member of APA, and has been a member of ACEP since its inception. He is a published author and has presented nationally and internationally on his areas of interest, including workshops on HAT in the USA, Canada and Europe.

B6: The Heart Pathway: The Nine Palaces of the Heart and What they Mean in Chinese Medicine and Trauma
(2 CE hrs, Excludes NBCC)
The heart meridian is one of the most intriguing point systems on the human body. Learn how it relates to the heavens (the Big Dipper), the Feng Shui of your home and your individual destiny. You will also learn how to energetically treat your patients.

  • Describe the how the nine palaces are divided up into fire and water / consciousness and unconsciousness.

Ted Cibik, DP, DMQ, is considered an international expert in medical Qigong, Qigong for health, internal martial arts including Taijichuan, and Chinese medicine. Dr. Cibik’s council has been requested by the National Institutes of Health on stress management and exercise science, specializing in Qigong.

B7: Collaboration: The Role of Awakened Consciousness in Psychotherapy Practice
(2 CE hrs)
Intuition and presence join in the collaboration between a psychotherapy practitioner and a seer when they communicate at the soul level with clients and their deceased loved ones. There are no barriers of time and space when energy patterns are followed to their deepest source.

Marilyn Stickle, LCSW, BCD, has worked with gifted seers and channels for over 25 years. This workshop presents a model of consultation for working with clients in psychotherapy. The model demonstrates the important role awakened consciousness can play in treatment process and outcome.

Carol Fitzpatrick is an empathic seer and channel that helps others embody heart-centered consciousness. She is co-founder of Center for Planetary Awakening, the author of two books, Fear Not My Child and A Call to Remember and writes "Light Streamings”, a monthly e-communiqué.

B8: Transforming Moods: The Combination of Energy Therapies , Yoga and Meditation

We will explore many combinations of Eden Energy Medicine energy psychology techniques, yoga postures, breathing strategies and meditation cues that will deliver strategies toward maintaining balance while alleviating anxiety and depression.

Shannon Arnett, MA, CEHP, is the director of Inner Peace Facilitation and Training, LLC and a member of ACEP.  She blends EP, yoga and mindfulness strategies in her work with clients individually and in class settings. She leads local and national workshops to increase harmony within organizations.

B9: Phantom Pain: A Model for the Role of Trauma "Blocked" Energy in Chronic Pain
(2 CE hrs)

Effective treatment of chronic pain requires working both on trauma and blocked subtle energy.  Using phantom limb pain as a model, we will explore EP approaches to treating hidden trauma and blocked energy in different forms of chronic pain.

  • Name the psychological condition that is an unrecognized cause of phantom limb pain.
  • List several promising energy-based therapies for phantom limb pain.
  • Outline a simple EP protocol for treating this and related pain conditions.

Rick Leskowitz, MD, directs the Integrative Medicine Project at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and is on the faculty at Harvard Medical School. His documentary film "The Joy of Sox: Weird Science and the Power of Intention” introduced energy psychology to a national PBS audience.

C1. What’s a Psychological Reversal and Why Should I Care?

Many clients lack full inner permission to make the changes they want. The common energy psychology term for this phenomenon is "psychological reversal” (PR). This presentation shows you powerful strategies for supercharging your clients’ success by identifying and intervening with their PRs. Includes demonstration and practicum.

  • List three characteristics of the critical voice that contribute to PRs.
  • State five of the most common PRs.

C2. Psychosis: Where Do the Voices Come From?

People who hear voices are usually labeled as crazy, but in other cultures these people may be revered as conduits between the physical and the spiritual worlds. Learn some surprising origins of auditory hallucinations and appropriate treatment strategies for the complex, multi-dimensional problem of psychosis.

  • Examine the difference between the view of a psychotic episode by the African healer and author Malidoma Patrice Somé and by mainstream American psychiatry.
  • Name three possible origins of auditory hallucinations in psychotic patients.

Barbara Stone, PhD, DCEP, is a professor at Energy Medicine University, a bilingual psychotherapist, and developer of the Soul Detective protocols presented in her books Invisible Roots and Transforming Fear into Gold. Dr. Stone is an ACEP certification consultant and holds a doctorate in clinical psychology.

C3. Healing the Parallel Self

Do you ever feel like you are working with only half the person? Are you ever puzzled about the origin of intrusive perturbations? Explore healing the parallel self!

C4. Integrated Approaches to
Energy Psychology

Attachment disorder, a behavioral disorder caused by the lack of an emotionally secure attachment to a caregiver, results in an inability to form healthy relationships. In this presentation, you will learn the HBLU approach to healing attachment/detachment trauma and repairing the ability to bond.

C6: Translating Words into Action: Using Tai Chi as Therapeutic Metaphor

With names like "Wave Hands Like Clouds" and "Grasping Sparrow's Tail" it becomes evident that Tai Chi is symbolic, archetypal, and potentially therapeutic in nature.  Explore how these postures can be overlaid with Five Element Theory, expanding your repertoire of in-office interventions and take-home work.

E1. First Steps Toward Mastering the Chakras

For many beginning energy psychology practitioners, the chakra system seems mysterious and complicated to treat. This presentation offers a lively, engaging introduction to the chakras. Several simple methods of chakra balancing will be demonstrated, as well as ways to make these methods even more effective.

  • Identify the locations of the seven major chakras.
  • Describe the psychological and physiological correlates of the seven major chakras.
  • Describe at least five simple methods of balancing and clearing the chakras

E3. Using Earth, Water, Fire and Air Breaths with Heart Rhythm Meditation to Treat Anxiety
(2 CE hrs)

Have you ever felt like you were breathing upward when you felt inspired, or forward when you were accomplishing a goal? This session will introduce you to four energetic breathing methods, Air, Fire, Water and Earth, with practical applications in the treatment of anxiety.

  • Describe one practical application for each elemental breath (earth, water, fire, air).
  • Describe the breath pattern of each type of elemental breath.

Elijah Gary Imlay, LCSW, an instructor with the Institute for Applied Meditation, teaches web courses on Heart Rhythm Meditation and guides individual retreats. He has also given workshops on the treatment of anxiety. A poet (Monsoon Blues, 2011), he has facilitated writing workshops for war veterans.

The AIT (Advanced Integrative Therapy) Humanitarian Aid Project in Guatemala began when Asha Clinton and Ligia Barascout met. In 12 years, the project developed into a structured, flexible program that meets the trauma treatment needs of professionals and laypersons. We will identify sustaining steps taken.

 

Objectives:

  • List three factors that contributed to the need for a Humanitarian Aid Project in Guatemala.
  • Identify three essential components for an AIT group trauma treatment.
  • Name two rationales for the modification of the AIT professional training tract in Guatemala.

Ligia Barascout, MS, has an MS degree in social psychology and family therapy and has been a psychologist in Guatemala since 1975. Ligia has studied NLP, ET, TAT, TFT, BSFF, REMAP and AIT. She is an EMDR trainer for Latin America, AIT Board Member and AIT Teacher for Latin America.

Catherine Folkers, MSW, brings to her work with AIT a history as a performing musician, business owner, musical instrument maker, yoga teacher and teacher-trainer. As managing director and director of training for AIT, her work reflects her life of music, spirit, and a desire to serve.

Mary Branch Grove, LCSW, is a member of ACEP in private practice in Northern Virginia. She is an ordained minister and has traveled extensively studying healing and spiritual practices, which she now teaches. She is a certified teacher in AIT Basics and MAP.

Nita Rowinski, LCSW, currently practices psychotherapy in upstate New York. She has significant appreciation for integrated mind- body-spirit treatment, owing partly to her background as an RN. AIT is a perfect medium for this treatment and she is an AIT certified teacher and consultant for Basics practice.

E4. The Power of Group Healing: Using Energy Psychology in Groups to Address Vicarious Traumatization

Learn the power of energy psychology groups to address vicarious traumatization (VT).  Hearing traumatic material can result in VT, which can negatively impact one’s clinical work and personal life. You will have the opportunity to experience or observe an EP group addressing VT symptoms.

 

Objectives:

  • Name three benefits of energy healing groups and list at least four types of energy healing group interventions.
  • Explain at least four potential ways vicarious traumatization can impact helping professionals in their work and in their personal lives.
  • Explain at least two interventions to use to address vicarious traumatization in an energy healing group.

Rachel Michaelsen, LCSW, DCEP, has been using EP with psychotherapy clients for over ten years and has integrated EFT, AIT, TAT and Matrix Energetics into her therapeutic interventions. 

E5. The Heart of the Therapist: Incorporating Intuition and Presence as Therapeutic Skills
(2 CE hrs)

This session will help you to think in a more conscious way about your relationship with both technique and intuition, and about the possibilities of integrating them and grounding both in presence.

 

Objectives:

  • List three ethical challenges that are specific to the practice of energy therapies.
  • List at least three key principles involved in the concept of "conscious embodiment" and their relevance to the therapeutic relationship.
  • List at least three different practices that the therapist can engage in to mitigate the ethical challenges (in the first objective) and to increase therapeutic effectiveness.
Philippe Isler, MA, is a psychologist with a full-time in private practice in Nova Scotia, Canada. Philippe has over 20 years experience developing an intuitive approach to combining energy healing with more conventional therapy modalities, while actively working on his own process.
E6. Therapist Presence and Client Connection: A Tool to Maximize Therapeutic Impact in Energy Therapies

Regular practice of heart-centered meditation produces therapist coherence and client connection, maximizing potential for therapeutic success when combined with any therapy technique. Emerging science provides supportive evidence of possible mechanisms of action.

Christine Bair, PhD, LMFT is director of integrative healthcare at Holos University. Dr Bair's research and teaching focuses on the bioenergy and field interactions of the human heart. A doctor of Energy Medicine, she emphasizes the essential importance of the therapist as a primary tool in the healing process.

E7. Spirituality, Mindfulness, and Altered States: An Integrated Approach with Couples and Sexuality
(2 CE hrs)
This workshop will focus on creating intimacy and resolving conflict for couples that struggle with communication impasses, conflict, sexual issues, and/or infidelity. Prioritizing heightened consciousness and energy awareness by tantric, shamanic, and modern therapeutic approaches allows clients to create a more expansive, fulfilling relationship.

 

Objectives:

  • Describe two models of consciousness and a strategy for treatment that brings more intimacy and connection to couples therapy.
  • Demonstrate techniques for altering states of mind combining couples counseling theory, sex therapy, Tantra, Shamanism, Brainspotting and Somatic Experiencing.
  • Identify methods to create and maintain a healing space conducive to doing consciousness work with clients.
Tammy Nelson, PhD, is a board-certified sexologist, a licensed professional counselor, and a certified Imago Relationship therapist. E8. Healing with Therapeutic Touch: High-Touch In a High-Tech World

Therapeutic Touch (TT) is a modern-day interpretation of ancient healing practices. In this workshop you will learn the principles of TT and how it is applied in settings around the world, see a demonstration, and practice a piece of the process.

 

Objectives:

  • Describe the four basic assumptions of therapeutic touch (TT).
  • Explain the difference between healing and curing.
  • Discuss how compassion and the practitioner's inner journey drive interventions with the client.

Kathy Wilmering, ARNP, DCEP, is a nurse practitioner, a social worker, a Qualified Therapeutic Touch Teacher (QTTT), as well as a master of many energy modalities. She has studied extensively with Dolores Krieger RN PhD, TT cofounder.


E9. Good Vibrations: Sound Therapy and TCM for Individuals, Groups and Communities
(2 CE hrs)

Learn to integrate the use of sound tools for individual, group, and community therapy.  Participants will work with tuning forks, Tibetan bowls, and chimes, and learn how to create appropriate energetic space with sound vibration to promote optimal health and well being in a therapeutic setting.

 

Objectives:

  • Identify a major factor in the efficacy of sound vibration when applied to acupuncture points or the human energy field.
  • Delineate the specific uses of different sound healing tools for the treatment of trauma, anxiety, and pain.
  • Explain the most appropriate use of sound tools for individuals, groups, and community focused work.
Ellen Franklin, PhD, is CEO of the Kairos Institute of Sound Healing. For more than 15 years she has been involved in the development and dissemination of educational programs in vibrational sound therapy rooted in Oriental Medicine and depth psychology. She is co-author of Acutonics From Galaxies to Cells: Planetary Science, Harmony, and Medicine.

F1. Orientations to Chinese Meridians
(2 CE hrs)

This session describes the history of acupuncture meridians and the confluence of events that resulted in meridian-based energy psychology. Participants will understand how meridian acupoints came to be applied by tapping, touching, or other stimulation in a variety of procedures in EP.

 

Objectives:

  • Recount the thread of Traditional Chinese Medicine to meridian based psychotherapies.
  • Identify the names and locations of commonly used Chinese meridian acupoints.
  • Apply three common applications of Chinese meridian points for calming and decreasing disturbance.

Michael Galvin, PhD, DCEP, is a psychologist, psychology professor and supervisor trained in many traditional therapies as well as EP and EMDR. He is co- author of Energy Psychology and EMDR: Combining Forces to Optimize Treatment. He trains internationally in EP and EMDR.

F2. Using Energy Psychology with First Responders and Military Personnel: Where Do I Begin?

First Responder and Military clients can offer some of the most rewarding experiences for an interventionist.  Knowing where to begin and what to avoid with these groups can mean the difference between success and failure.  Come share the lessons learned in working with these populations.

  • Describe at least three characteristics of the "Rescuer Personality.”
  • List at least two ways in which energy modalities can be integrated into a treatment plan for these groups.

Jim McAninch, CEAP, CTR, is an energy coach and practitioner working with crisis intervention and life challenging issues. Trained in multiple Energy modalities, he has worked with unions and public safety for over 25 years. Jim is a member of the ACEP Ethics Committee.

Tom Greenhalgh, LCSW, MACJ,
has over 33 years in public safety, currently working as a Police Lt/NRP.  An ACEP member, Tom is credentialed in multiple Energy Psychology modalities that he uses in his work serving the first responder and military populations.

F3. Tackling the Impostor Syndrome and Psycho-social Alienation with BSFF™
