ACEP's Plate is Full - Fundraising Campaign

By ACEP President, Debby Vajda

Do you love what ACEP does to support the field of Energy Psychology? Do you wish we could do more? We do, too. And we need your help.

We have a wonderful group of committees and many dedicated volunteers, without whom we couldn't begin to do all that we do. But almost everything takes staff support. Their time is fully committed to current tasks - membership, certification, conferenece, communications, etc. Our plate is full and there's not an inch to spare for all the other things we'd like to be doing as an organization to support you as an EP practitioner and to grow the field.

What dreams do you have for EP? Here are some of ours: What if every mental and allied health practitioner was familiar with EP? And physicians, nurses and teachers? There could be programs to teach EP to kids to increase their resilience and other programs to help decrease violence in society. With enough research and increased credibility, we could work with veterans through the VA, possibly saving thousands of lives.

To help make this happen, would you be willing to donate one client hour a month to support ACEP so that we can do more for the field? Whatever your client fee is, could you pledge that amount? If not, is there a lower monthly amount you could pledge?

Monthly pledges offer us the security to hire staff, but we'll also gladly accept one-time donations. And if you can pledge an amount higher than your client fee, you can bet we'll be delighted with that!

So - our plate is full - please pledge an hour (or whatever you can) so we can benefit you by increasing research and credibility in the field and, by extension, bring the gift that is energy psychology to more and more people.

Please join our campaign and donate by CLICKING HERE.

With deep gratitude for your membership and all that you do,

Debby Vajda, LCSW, DCEP

ACEP President

NIMH will be replacing the DSM with the Research Domain Criteria

Thomas Insel, the director of the National Institutes of Mental Health has announced that the federal agency–which provides grants for research on mental illness–will be "re-orienting its research away from DSM categories.” Thomas Insel’s statement comes just weeks before the scheduled publication of the DSM-V, the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. Insel writes:

"While DSM has been described as a ‘Bible’ for the field, it is, at best, a dictionary, creating a set of labels and defining each. The strength of each of the editions of DSM has been ‘reliability’–each edition has ensured that clinicians use the same terms in the same ways. The weakness is its lack of validity. Unlike our definitions of ischemic heart disease, lymphoma, or AIDS, the DSM diagnoses are based on a consensus about clusters of clinical symptoms, not any objective laboratory measure. In the rest of medicine, this would be equivalent to creating diagnostic systems based on the nature of chest pain or the quality of fever. Indeed, symptom-based diagnosis, once common in other areas of medicine, has been largely replaced in the past half century as we have understood that symptoms alone rarely indicate the best choice of treatment. Patients with mental disorders deserve better.” TO READ MORE, CLICK HERE

David Feinstein Receives Recognition from Psychology Press
David Feintstein has received accolades from Psychology Press on his recent article,"Acupoint Stimulation in Treating Psychological Disorders: Evidence of Efficacy.”

The letter from Psychology Press reads:

"I am pleased to inform you that the Psychology Progress team has identified your recent publication, "Acupoint Stimulation in Treating Psychological Disorders: Evidence of Efficacy” as a significant contributor in the study of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. It is of special interest to progress in the psychology field. We would like to list your publication in our next edition.

"Psychology Progress alerts the scientific community to breaking journal articles considered to represent the best in psychology research. Psychology Progress is viewed almost 40,000 times each month and has an audience of academic and clinical personnel from a growing number of the top 20 major academic institutions.”

We are very pleased by this recognition in part because Psychology Progress is about as mainstream as it gets in reporting developments in psychology. An addendum to the feature discusses the use of Energy Psychology in the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy."

Collective Healing Inspired by the Dalai Lama
By Mary Hammond, DCEP

10,000 of us sat in the presence of the Dali Lama this month in Portland Oregon at the Environmental Summit. We heard Gov. Kitzhaber, David Suziki PhD., renowned Canadian scientist, and Andrea Durbin, Executive director of the Oregon Environmental Council, lay out the devastating facts about where our planet is and the urgency of creating change now! Dr. Suziki asked, "Why is it that all people cannot come together on the basics of clean water and clean air?"...

The Dali Lama joined with the urgency, but also with his simple solutions. He ended every paragraph in his presentation with, "But I don't know." With any issue the path to get there he says is "1. Conviction 2. Meditation 3. Implementation-- I think, but I don't know for sure."

He spent the afternoon allowing us to ponder with him regarding compassion and kindness. He says simply if we create a world of non-violent, happy people they will want to take care of the planet." He thinks and says, "But I don't know."

I was struck by the energy of activism, conviction, meditation, implementation, compassion and kindness. Hold those energies with me now as we lead this planet to change. Pose, tap, meditate, balance your chakras to hold those energies.

I was most struck, however, with the energy of "not knowing" that the Dali Lama subtly imparted to us. Feel how expansive it is to enter not knowing, versus having the answer. The place where we know is more contained, narrower. Hold this energy of not knowing and imagine the possibilities.

What we have, I think, but I cannot know for sure, of course, is the secret medicine that is the antidote as we release fossil fuel and unnecessary waste from our lives. I have shaman friends that participated in an experiment a few years ago with renowned shamanic teacher, Sondra Ingerman. They sat in a circle in Washington state and used their shamanic powers to change the ph of the water in a trough in Arizona. There was a scientist there who did the before and after ph tests.

Repeatedly choose a piece of land or a body of water and intend to create healing using energy psychology and energy medicine-- do this alone and do it in circles. Do it when you are awake and ask for it to happen while you are asleep. It may work, but we don't know.

In Service, Mary Hammond DCEP
