Research In the Works: HAT-SR StudyDecember 2013: Study of the "Health Effects of Heart Assisted Therapy®-SR (HAT-SR)" is currently under way. The research team of John H. Diepold, Jr., Ph.D. (Psychologist), Elisabeth A. Siegert, MD (Physician), and Maria E. Pfrommer, Ph.D., APN-C, RN, CNE (Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Educator) are evaluating the changes in physical and psychological health of residents in a Continuing Care Retirement Community after a six week pilot study using HAT-SR. Heart Assisted Therapy®-SR is an abbreviated, three-step protocol for self-regulation for personal use by non-clinicians, which was derived from several components found in the HAT® model of psychotherapy.
The SR is for Self-Regulation, which turns out to be a by-product for many who learn to use HAT in-between sessions in a more general way than in psychotherapy.
If anyone is interested in helping support a more in depth psychotherapy study with HAT, perhaps studying QEEG changes pre and post treatment and/or cortisol changes, please contact John Diepold, Jr., PhD at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Wikipedia Petition UpdateAlmost 7,000 people around the world have signed the petition we started in December. The petition aims to move Wikipedia to create and enforce new policies that allow for true scientific discourse about holistic approaches to healing.
Because many people will get their first impression about energy psychology and energy medicine from Wikipedia pages (which are currently negatively biased and anti-scientific), it's important we continue raising awareness on this matter. If you haven't done so, please sign and spread the word.
ACEP Committee CornerHumanitarian committee update by Rod Lind, MA, LPC
We got a great response to the survey we sent out last September. According to the results, ACEP members want us to get to work equally on all of the following humanitarian fronts:
Since we are a small committee and can’t tackle all of these at once, we decided to begin by putting together a guidebook or manual that would guide ACEP as they get involved in future humanitarian projects. Though this may take a few months to complete, we are on our way!
- Reaching out to local, national and international humanitarian organizations to learn of their needs that ACEP can provide for and their requirements for our participation.
- Creating a protocol manual to guide ACEP volunteers to volunteer for and/or to initiate humanitarian projects.
- Developing an educational program that can be used for the teaching of appropriate EP techniques to first responders and other lay persons.
- Recruiting ACEP volunteers to provide appropriate support to local, national, and international humanitarian organizations.
- Recruiting ACEP volunteers to participate in treatment teams sent to crisis situations.
- Recruiting ACEP volunteers to train appropriate humanitarian organization personnel and first responders in the use of EP treatment methods.
Your help is needed: If you or anyone you know has experience writing a manual, we sure could use your help—both to expedite the process and to ensure its professional quality. Please contact me at email@example.com if you have this experience and are willing to share it.
I want to thank Kristin Miller, Amy Frost, Cindy Baker, Sarah Bird, Phyll Robson and Suzanne Connolly who have all been gracious and generous with their knowledge and time so far.

Send a Student to the Conference!Energy psychology is on the ‘cutting edge’ of psychotherapy, and ACEP is the premiere organization educating, researching and promoting these new energy-based therapies. We are feeling very excited about our upcoming conference in Phoenix, and hope that you are as well.
Young people are the hope and promise of our future. They are open to new ideas and innovations, and have more energy and more years to make a difference in our world. Very often, they wish to attend educational opportunities like trainings and conferences, but may lack the funds to do so.
We wish to encourage more young people to attend our conference. We are offering substantial discounts (approx 50% off the conference fee) to all currently registered graduate and undergraduate students. We are also offering three full-tuition scholarships to the conference available. All students who attend our conference will also receive a free ACEP membership for one year.
If you know any researchers or graduate students in psychology who are interested in research, tell them about ACEP and send them to the conference! Application deadline is April 1, 2014.
To apply for a conference scholarship, contact: John Freedom at Research_committee@energypsych.org

Collective Healing: WinterCourtesy of Mary Hammond
Let's use this time of year as an opportunity to go deeper within--a time of soul hibernation. Close your eyes and hold your heart center and melt within your being. Allow some moments of reflection and letting go. Then move more deeply to that place of mystery where there are no noticeable moments, where being is all that there is. Merge with this Mystery and just be for awhile.
When you emerge from this place bring it with you. Notice that you are able to approach your life with greater peace, refreshed creativity, and a broadened view. Look around for where you are to serve.
