ACEP - Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology

ACEP Statement on Diversity & Inclusion

The Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP) welcomes everyone from diverse backgrounds including culture, race, ethnicity, national origin, language, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, socio-economic status, and political belief

As a learning organization, ACEP seeks to embrace cultural humility, openness, and curiosity as a way of expressing and cultivating mutual respect. We seek to invite and process feedback in ways that help the organization's diversity and inclusion practices grow and mature. ACEP is committed to and encourages people of diverse backgrounds to participate as volunteers and in positions of leadership. ACEP is dedicated to choosing presenters and speakers that respect, are sensitive to, and competent in individual and cultural diversity and inclusion topics and dynamics.

ACEP is increasingly aware that competent application of trauma-informed energy psychology and energy practices provides unique and effective means to address sensitive and emotionally challenging diversity and inclusion issues. This approach can be powerfully healing for individuals, organizations, and communities wanting to transcend and transform the transgenerational effects of racism, discrimination and marginalization.

ACEP Guidelines for Diversity & Inclusion

1. Demonstrate and promote cultural competence, humility, empathy, and respect at all levels among ACEP staff, members, volunteers, committee and board members, conference attendees and presenters from a variety of cultural groups and racial backgrounds in a manner that recognizes, affirms, values and preserves each person’s worth and dignity.

2. Recognize, within our ACEP community, that each of us has our own cultural background and racial identity that we need to be aware of, in order to increase awareness of differing personal assumptions, attitudes, beliefs, feelings, stereotypes and biases. Recognize also dynamics of power and privilege in order to acknowledge and address their impact on organizational structures and processes.

3. Establish and maintain an atmosphere of openness and respect for the discussion of situations in which perceived insensitive or exclusionary behaviors or policies are experienced by any ACEP volunteers, members, guests, presenters or personnel. Address any potential disparities which occur involving possible bias, discrimination, and marginalization within the association and among colleagues in a civil and non-shaming way. Discuss any miscommunication that may arise due to a misunderstanding or lack of awareness of cultural differences or power dynamics within a framework of curiosity and learning.

4. Develop and sponsor education, training, programs, and services which cultivate the overall use of energy psychology and specific energy healing methods or interventions that are culturally appropriate and effective for people of varying backgrounds.

5. Advocate for ACEP staff, participants, volunteers, committee and board members to participate in professional education and training programs that advance culturally competent, anti-racist, and other socially aware practices within the organization and energy psychology profession.
