Directors At-Large

David MacKay

David grew up in the English suburbs of Montreal and studied Mechanical Engineering at McGill University. After graduation he went to Honduras for a year, at the invitation of a classmate from there. That’s where David picked up Spanish and his affection for Latin America.

Back in Montreal, David started actual engineering work in ’75 with a water treatment company. Life seemed a bit boring in Canada, so after 2 years David decided to return Honduras. But on his way there he met a Mexican woman, got married and worked in Mexico for two years before returning to Canada with his wife and firstborn son, where they had two more children.

After 8 years in Canada, they moved back to Mexico in ’87 and David started his ongoing water treatment business here. At 40 David got a spiritual itch and joined a school of metaphysics and mysticism, partly to break out of his left-brain shell. He later studied for 3 years a program called Gestalt and Body Psychotherapy. This is where David got his first formal training in psychotherapy, completed in 1999. In 1998 he completed a 3-year training in Bio-Energy and Spiritual Healing. In 2004 he completed a 3-year training in Family Constellations. In 2012 he completed a 5-year training in Holistic Psychotherapy and Meditation with Claudio Naranjo. In 2018 he completed a 2-years master’s program in Systemic Social Configurations; his degree is pending revalidation in Mexico of his Canadian studies.

David discovered EFT in 2006 and began translating Gary’s newsletter, together with a team of Spanish translators, in 2007. He is certified as a trainer by EFT International; he studied Matrix Reimprinting with Karl Dawson and is certified as a trainer of MR. In 2007 David began teaching EFT in Mexico, and later in Spain, Argentina and Ecuador. From 2007 to 2014 David taught over 100 EFT courses.

In 2011 he formed the Hispanic EFT Association and started the certification program modeled on the EFTi program. The Association has a website, 60 certified EFT practitioners and 28 certified EFT trainers. They have regular conferences, generally alternating between Mexico and Spain or South America. Over the years the mailing list for the Spanish-language newsletter has grown to 37,000, distributed approximately 1/3 Mexico, 1/3 Spain, 1/3 Central and South America.
