ACEP Board - Officers
Lynn Mary Karjala, PhD, DCEP - President


Lynn is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Roswell, Georgia. In addition to her general practice, she specializes in the treatment of severe trauma, including Dissociative Identity Disorder and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. She has extensive experience in the training of other clinicians in both conventional and alternative approaches to treatment and has given numerous presentations in the U.S., the U.K., and Canada. Her favorite topics include ways to combine energy psychology with the best of traditional therapy, especially in the treatment of trauma.

Lynn is well traveled in pursuit of her studies. She received her A.B. from Radcliffe College in Cambridge, MA, and her master’s from the University of Hawaii/Manoa. She completed her Ph.D. in developmental psychology at the University of Massachusetts/Amherst and later re specialized in clinical psychology at Georgia State University in Atlanta.

Lynn is an Approved Consultant for the CEP Certification process and former chair of the CEP Certification Committee. She is trained in AIT, EFT, TAT, BSFF, Allergy Antidotes, and clinical hypnosis. Before going into clinical practice, she was a tenured faculty member at Southeast Missouri State University, where she taught graduate and undergraduate courses on child, adolescent, and life-span development and the psychology of death and dying. Her most recent book is Healing Everyday Traumas: Free Yourself from the Scars of Bullying, Criticism and Rejection. She is also the author of Understanding Trauma and Dissociation: A Guide for Therapists, Patients, and Loved Ones and co-author of Taming Trauma Beasties: Helping Children Confront Trauma and Heal.

Phil Mollon, PhD, DCEP - Immediate Past President

Phil Mollon qualified in clinical psychology at Leeds University in the UK in 1976. He subsequently trained in psychotherapy at Tavistock Clinic, qualifying in 1985. Later, he trained as a psychoanalyst with the Institute of Psychoanalysis in London. He is the author of ten professional books, on a range of psychoanalytically oriented topics, including shame, trauma, dissociation, and self-psychology.

Over the last ten years he has been immersed in the study and development of energy psychology approaches. His most recent book is Psychoanalytic Energy Psychotherapy, exploring the interface between energy psychology and psychoanalytic perspectives. He is a Diplomate and Certification Consultant for ACEP. Through his background in clinical psychology and psychoanalysis, he's been able to introduce many of those in more traditional fields to the possibilities of EP. He works in psychiatric settings within the British National Health Service, as well as privately.

Lori Chortkoff Hops, Ph.D, DCEP - Secretary


Lori Chortkoff Hops, PhD, DCEP is a licensed Psychologist, (University of Houston, Texas), DCEP (Diplomate in Comprehensive Energy Psychology), and is a Reiki Master in a private practice in Westlake Village, California, USA. Dr. Hops serves on ACEP's Executive Board of Directors as Secretary (2016-2019).   Dr. Hops combines practices from western empirical science, wisdom traditions from around the world, and her personal heart based intuitive guidance when working with others.  She also teaches courses for professionals, students, and the general public on energy practices, spirituality, ritual, coping with illness, self-care, laughter yoga, intuition, and movement arts. She dances, writes, and paints.  Dr. Hops serves on the Board of Directors for Gift of Life Los Angeles, a nonprofit organization that funds international pediatric heart surgeries and nutritional assistance. Dr. Hops founded the ACEP Ventura County Local Group in 2015.

Wade H. Cockburn, PhD - Treasurer



Wade Cockburn, PhD is a trained Relational Somatic Psychotherapist, yoga instructor, massage therapist, author, and lecturer. He previously was the clinical supervisor and family, individual, and child therapist at an Oregon children’s day-treatment center. Wade and Barb have recently relocated to Lubbock, TX where he is writing a book, giving presentations nationally, seeing an occasional client, and enjoying his daughter and their grandchildren!

After 30+ years as a successful small business owner, Wade entered graduate school to continue his service career as a psychotherapist. He was introduced to an energy modality by a chiropractor in the early '90s before being trained in 2006, joined ACEP in 2008, and then nominated to the board in 2011. Along with his work in somatic and energy psychologies, Wade is enthusiastic about authentic communication, healthy relationships, and effective parenting! In addition to ACEP, he is a member of the US Association of Body Psychotherapist, the European Association of Body Psychotherapist, and Association for Pre- & Perinatal Psychology and Health.


Robert Schwarz, PsyD, DCEP - Executive Director


Bob was appointed to the position of Executive Director in September of 2008. Prior to this he was on ACEP's Board of Directors for three years. During that time he served as the Conference Director, while also helping steward many of ACEP's key initiatives focused on improving operational and financial aspects of ACEP.   He designed ACEP's Science of Energy Healing Online Program as well as spearheaded ACEP's revamped EFT Training program.

He is a licensed psychologist and coach in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania and is author of Tools for Transforming Trauma (2002), Posttramatic Stress Disorder: A Clinicians Guide (1991), and We're No Fun Anymore: Helping Couples Cultivate Joyful Marriages Through The Power of Play (2011).


From 1989-1996 he was president of the Institute for Advanced Clinical Training, where he organized 11 conferences on trauma, Ericksonian Hypnosis and Brief Therapy, training over 10,000 therapists. He is a clinical member of AAMFT, an approved consultant for the ASCH and is diagnostically trained in TFT and is a diplomate in comprehensive energy psychology.


Bob has presented numerous workshops internationally on energy psychology, Ericksonian therapy and treating trauma. He has numerous videos including: The neuroscience of the effectiveness of EP.  and Energy Psychology as a brief approach for Treating Trauma.   He balances work with writing songs and playing guitar in a rock-and-roll band and he is 1/2 of the acoustic duo the Keynoters that have performed at the ACEP conferences in 2014-2019 and the 2015 IONS conference.

Sacca Amber



Sacca Amber holds a BA degree in psychology from the University of Costa Rica, and is currently working on her license to become a certified psychotherapist. She is also an Energy Work teacher, and a certified Being Energy Instructor and Coach by Energy Life Sciences Institute, based in Los Angeles.

Sacca combined her studies in psychology and psychoanalysis with her passion for native Mesoamerican wisdom, energy work, lucid dreaming, meditation, shamanism and altered states of consciousness. She has shared knowledge and experiences with circles of native American medicine, and has devoted herself to the study of the Toltec tradition, in order to expand her understanding of healing and spiritual freedom.

She has been studying and practicing Energy Psychology since 2016, same year she became a member of ACEP. She has experience working with child trauma using Energy Psychology techniques and has cooperated with the introduction of EFT and TTT in the Costa Rican Foster Child Care Service.
Sacca is co-founder of the IIPE (International Institute for Energy Psychology), which is based in Costa Rica. She is also co-founder and vice president of the CEJCR (Costa Rican Center for Junguian Studies) and co-founder of the non-governmental organization Claramente.

She has also been involved in the Costa Rican feminist and LGTBIQ movements for human rights, and she intents her work as a psychologist and energy work teacher to be nurtured by critical points of view around gender, ecologic consciousness, inclusion and diversity. She considers herself an evolutionary activist and commits her professional work and personal life to the rising of consciousness and awareness.

Julie George, LSW


Julie George is a licensed social worker working in the mental health field. Julie earned a Masters in Social Administration from Case Western Reserve University with a concentration in Adult Mental Health.

Currently, Julie is a self employed therapist at The Family Institute in Erie, Pa. facilitating therapy for individuals, couples and families.  She has over 25 years experience working in mental health/social services. Sixteen of those years have been as a licensed social worker/ therapist. In addition to therapy, she has worked in international adoption, substance abuse, family services, criminal justice, and therapy.   She has facilitated groups with the Psychology of Incarceration program, taught stress management workshops, and meditation classes and facilitated various other workshops and retreats. Additionally, she served as a clinical director at a public mental health outpatient clinic 6 years.

Julie has been a member of ACEP since 2005.  She has been a member of the Education Committee for 6 years and serves as the chairperson of the Quality Assurance subcommittee of the Education Committee. She is a member of National Guild of Hypnotists.   

Julie has been trained in various techniques in energy psychology and is currently pursuing the Energy Psychology certification through ACEP.  She is certified in TAT (Tapas Acupressure Technique), is a certified Heart Rhythm Meditation teacher from the Institute of Applied Meditation and a certified hypnotherapist through the National Guild of Hypnotists. She is also pursuing certification in Aromatherapy from Aromahead Institute. She takes a holistic approach in all her work and has been interested in complementary approaches to healing for most of her life.

Mark E. Lomax, MBA, MS

Mark has extensive experience and background in non-profit associations, having worked for and serving on numerous committees and boards, including holding positions of president, chairman, and executive director. He was the past Co-Chair on the Mental Health Task Force of the Pennsylvania Commission for Justice Initiatives.

In 2008, Mark retired as a Major with the Pennsylvania State Police with over 27 years of dedicated service. His last assignment was the Director for the Bureau of Training and Education, where he oversaw all training and education for the Department’s 6,300 personnel. For 19 years, Mark volunteered as a Peer Contact in the PA State Police Member Assistance Program, providing confidential assistance to enlisted, civilians and their families. Through his personal experiences and as a peer contact, Mark witnessed firsthand the psychological impact first responders may endure in the performance of their duties.

After the state police, Mark served as the interim Director of the MBA program at Eastern University. Mark also spent a year in Liberia, West Africa, as a program manager for the United Nations.

He has a BA degree in psychology from LaSalle University, a MBA degree from Eastern University, and a MS degree in Higher Education from Drexel University. 

Sherry O’Brian, LCSW, DCEP (Chair - Education Committee)

Psychotherapist, international author & speaker who has assisted thousands of individuals within her workshops, groups, and private practice to transform their pain into possibility. Sherry is the sole proprietor of Mind/Body/Spirit Inner-grations and specializes in personal growth and transformation, as well as working with those suffering from chronic illness, grief/loss, and other emotional disorders. She also facilitates support groups for cancer patients and their family members at The Cancer Support Community of Central Indiana, as well as develops seminars and workshops on mind/body/spirit healing as an independent contractor for several professional organizations.

As a motivational speaker her workshops and retreats focus on mind/body/spirit healing and personal growth. Sherry has presented several times at the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology, The International Society for the Study of Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine, and the National Association of Social Workers conferences, sharing innovative, often cutting-edge techniques, to inspire, motivate, and empower other professionals to better assist their clients.

Sherry has over twenty one years experience in the oncology field, as well as over twenty five years within the field of mental health. She is certified in Comprehensive Energy Psychology, Emotional Freedom Technique, Advanced Clinical Hypnotherapy, Psych-K™, Subtle Energy Therapy, Integrative Energy Therapy, Bereavement Counseling, & Guided Imagery. She is a Reiki Master and an ordained minister.

Paula Shaw, CADC, DCEP


Paula Shaw, CADC, DCEP is a Life Transitions Therapist, Author, Speaker and Media Host.

With degrees in Education and Communications, from Long Beach State University, she later attained her graduate counseling credentials at Loyola Marymount University, specializing in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling as well as Grief Recovery work. In 1999, Paula fell in love with the newly emerging field of Energy Psychology and is one of the Founding members of ACEP. She currently serves on its Board of Directors.

Within that field, she developed her proprietary method, Conscious Healing and Repatterning Therapy (CHART), in 2000 and introduced it at the first International Energy Psychology Conference in Switzerland. CHART clears issues on the levels of Inner Child, Inner Adolescent and Inner Adult using a Key word installed into the Subconscious Mind.

Paula’s desire to learn even more compelled her to explore the world of the Chakras. Wanting to increase people’s awareness regarding this wonderful aspect of the human energy system, Paula completed the first edition of Chakras: The Magnificent Seven, in 2002. She released a revised edition in 2013. She released her second book, Grief…When Will This Pain Ever End? in July of 2015. Her most recent book, Saying The Right Thing When You Don’t Know What To Say, was launched in October of 2018.

For 27 years, Paula has been helping clients cope with the upheaval of change.  She is also a Reiki Master and is trained in all of the major Energy Psychology modalities including EFT, TAT, BSFF, and Ask and Receive. She has a private practice in Encinitas, CA. and is also a Media Host on her own radio show, Change It Up Radio with Paula Shaw on AM1170 and FM 96.1 The Answer, in San Diego CA. The show is Podcasted on all the major platforms.

Her greatest joys are her adult children, Erin and Casey. She also has a beloved 14-year-old Grand Dog, named Wikky.

Sylvia Stengle, MPH



Sylvia Stengle is the chair of ACEP's Diversity and Inclusion Committee. She first learned about energy healing modalities in 2011, from a Director of Counseling that had been recently hired in the Pennsylvania women’s medical clinic she founded in 1978, The Allentown Women’s Center. She then took ACEP seminars in energy psychology and emotional freedom technique, attended ACEP conferences, and did some reading, with the result that she came to have the enthusiasm of a convert about the efficacy of energy healing modalities. She is the chair of ACEP’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

Her career has been in women’s health services. Over the years, she has served as a trustee on several not-for-profit boards on the local, state and national level.  She has training and national experience in health education and media advocacy. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Wisconsin with a major in history. She has a Master of Public Health degree from the University of California-Berkeley.

Debby Vajda, LCSW - Consultant to the Board
Debby Vajda is a licensed clinical social worker in private practice in Corvallis, Oregon. She has been practicing energy psychology for twenty years and is trained in TFT, EFT, TAT, BSFF, Allergy Antidotes, and NeuroModulation Technique, among others.

She was a member of ACEP's Board of Directors for nine years, formed the Development and Board Advancement Committees, and served as president  during 2013-14.  She is also the developer and past-coordinator of the Energy Therapy Network of the Mid-Atlantic States.


Craig Weiner, DC


Craig Weiner, DC is a licensed doctor of chiropractic and has been in practice for nearly 30 years offering an integrated mind-body model that provides safety, nurturance and empowerment for patients and clients. He is a Certified Accredited Master Trainer for AAMET (Association for the Advancement of Meridian Energy Techniques), is a trainer of Evidence Based EFT for clinicians, is one of the four certified Matrix Reimprinting EFT trainers in North America. In addition he is also a certified META-Health Practitioner certified through the International META-Medicine Association, (IMMA). He is the co-developer and facilitator of the online Tapping out of Trauma training program. He trains professionals,lectures, mentors/supervises energy psychology students and practitioners internationally in clinical and business skills along with his wife and partner Alina Frank. He is passionate about the science of tapping and will be releasing the documentary film, the Science of Tapping in 2019.


Sarette Zecharia PhD, DCEP


Sarette Zecharia is a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in Scottsdale Arizona. She is the co-founder and President of Vibrant Health Care – a clinic founded on the principles of energy psychology and medicine, which acts as a bridge between cutting edge western regenerative procedures and eastern/energy medicine.  She is also the founder of the doctoral internship/fellowship program in Integrative Pain and Energy Psychology.

For the last 20+ years, Sarette has focused on empowering patients in pain, whether spiritual, mental, emotional, physical or energetic, in creating a better quality of life.  She lectures nationally and internationally, as well as serves an international clientele. Her main focus is on chronic pain, PTSD, trauma, anxiety and depression, and dream work.

She received her PhD from Pacifica Graduate Institute. She hold many certifications including Gestalt (Southwestern Gestalt Institute) and Nutrition for Pain Management (Academy for Integrative Pain Management). She holds a DCEP, is a consultant candidate and is the co-chair for the CEP committee. She is also the local group facilitator for ACEP and is currently involved in creating the EP Graduate Course.
